History:
According to legend, Moleskine originated in France and the world-famous name was first coined by Bruce Chatwin. By the mid-1980s, however, the brand had all but vanished as the small family-owned company in the French city of Tours that produced them went out of business. Chatwin wrote about the little black notebook that was his favourite in the book The Songlines, and quotes the owner of the stationary store from which he got his Moleskines as having proclaimed “le vrai moleskine n’est plus” (The true Moleskine is no more).
However in 1997, the brand was revived by a small Milanese publisher who selected this historical name. Today, Moleskine notebooks have resumed their travels, and are provide a perfect and irreplaceable complement to modern technology. “Capturing reality in movement, glimpsing and recording details, inscribing the unique nature of experience on paper: Moleskine is a battery that stores ideas and feelings, releasing its energy over time.” (www.moleskine.com)
